Helmet with Pinlock®: how does it work and why is it useful?

Casque avec Pinlock®: comment ça marche et pourquoi c’est utile ?

The fog inside the visor is one of the most common inconveniences for motorcyclists, especially in winter or rain. To remedy this, SHARK equips almost all of its helmets full-face, modular, and jet with a Pinlock® system, ensuring a clear view regardless of the conditions.

What is a Pinlock®?

The Pinlock® is an anti-fog film that attaches inside the main visor of the helmet using two small pins.
It creates an insulating air barrier between the visor and the internal screen, preventing condensation from forming.
Result: no fog, even in cold or humid weather.

This system, derived from technology used in competition, is now a standard of comfort and safety on the helmets SHARK.

Pinlock 70 vs Pinlock 120: what difference?

Pinlock 70: high-end standard, it offers effective fog protection for daily use and touring.
→ This is the version installed on the majority of helmets SHARK road models (e.g. Skwal Cup, Skwal i3, D-Skwal 3, OXO ).

Pinlock 120 : used on our most high-performance models, it ensures optimal fog resistance, even in extreme conditions.
→ It is found on the helmets Spartan GT Pro, Spartan RS, RS Jet

The main difference lies in the moisture absorption capacity: the Pinlock 120 is thicker and offers a maximum field of vision

Why choose a helmet equipped with a Pinlock®?

  • Increased safety: a fog-free visor ensures better visibility and optimal reflexes.
  • Driving comfort: no more partially open visors to avoid condensation.
  • Durability: Pinlock® films are interchangeable and retain their properties over time.
  • Versatility: compatible with most SHARK visors, they adapt to all riding styles.

The Pinlock® attachment system: the “Two Component Pins”

The Two Component Pin is an eccentric double-component system. Thanks to this design, slightly rotating the pin changes the pressure exerted on the Pinlock® lens, allowing you to adjust the seal tension.

In practice:

  • Turning it forward tightens the lens, increasing the airtightness of the air chamber.

  • Turning it backward slightly releases the tension to facilitate mounting or dismounting.

This adjustment mechanism allows you to find the perfect balance between hold and flexibility, ensuring that the Pinlock® film always remains hermetically sealed to the visor, without creating optical distortion

Conclusion

Whether you are driving in the city, on the road, or on the track, a helmet equipped with a Pinlock® ensures comfort and safety.

At SHARK Helmets, this technology is now integrated or available across our entire range, so that every rider can enjoy perfect vision in all conditions.
