All about the ECE 22.06 standard

Tout savoir sur la norme ECE 22.06

Safety is not up for debate. At SHARK, each helmet is designed to push boundaries... but not those of safety. The ECE 22.06 standard is the new European benchmark for protection. More demanding, more realistic, closer to real-life conditions. Here's everything you need to know before choosing your next helmet.

ECE 22.06: what exactly is it?

Since July 2022, the ECE 22.06 standard has been gradually replacing 22.05. It defines the homologation rules for motorcycle helmets sold in Europe. It's not a technical detail: it's a guarantee of proven performance.

In concrete terms, an ECE 22.06 helmet is tested in more varied, more realistic, and more stringent conditions than before. It must withstand impacts on multiple zones, at different speeds, with different angles to simulate the accident that can occur to the rider on the road or track.

What are the other homologation standards worldwide?

Motorcyclists ride on all continents, and regulations change from one country to another. If the ECE 22.06 is the European reference, other standards exist around the world.

What's changing compared to the old standard?

1. More demanding impact tests

Gone are the days of "standard" zones only. ECE 22.06 tests include:

  • additional impact points (more than 12 zones instead of 6)
  • more realistic fall speeds
  • oblique impacts, simulating slides and angles

2. Tests with accessories

Visors, visors sunshields, intercoms... everything is tested with the complete helmet, as in real conditions. No detail is left to chance.

3. Consideration of weight and kinetics

The ECE 22.06 also integrates the effects of skull rotation, often neglected in the old standards. Result: helmets better optimized against brain injuries.

Why is it important for you?

Because on two wheels, every detail counts. Adopting an helmet ECE 22.06 means:

  • Betting on next-generation protection
  • Being compliant with regulations for years to come
  • Gaining confidence, even at high speed

All helmets SHARK switch to 22.06

At SHARK, we don't follow standards, we anticipate them. Our goal: to equip each rider with the best available. All our models being launched are designed to meet tomorrow's standards today.

How to identify an helmet ECE 22.06?

It's simple. Check:

  • The label inside the helmet
  • The indication “ECE 22.06” or “UN ECE R22.06” on the manual
  • On our site, all models are clearly identified

And above all: avoid second-hand or uncertified helmets. Safety is never a playground.

At SHARK, every curve, every fiber strand, every design choice serves one ambition: to protect you without holding back your passion. The ECE 22.06 standard is the assurance that your helmet is ready to face the asphalt, speed, wind... and the unexpected.
